Valbre_8452entino is one of the true originals that we’re delighted to count among our stable of remarkable talent. He’s currently in rehearsals for something very, very exciting that’s on the horizon. We can’t tell you too much more at the moment, but we thought now was the perfect time to ask him a few questions about his background as a performer.

You do a lot of musical theatre. What would you say is the number one skill required for musical theatre?

Here are my top 3: 1. Desire  2. Motivation  3.Commitment. None of these of course are actually skills in that they can’t be learned.  They are, however, absolutely crucial to sustain the rigors that musical theatre requires.

You’re also a drag performer. How long have you been doing it, and how did you get started?

I’ve been doing it for around 15 years. I had a friend that was a drag performer and make-up artist who invited me to do a double act at an event. It was an amazing experience and the audience reaction was phenomenal, so it just grew from there.

What new avenues has this opened up in your career?

My drag persona ‘Brandy Alexander’ has successfully branched out into cabaret, presenting, MC engagements as well as performing in plays. In fact, she had a full length play written especially for her by well-known Australian playwright, Noel Anderson.

Are you a trained or self-taught performer?

I have had formal training in acting and musical theatre. I still continue with an excellent singing coach and often take masterclasses to keep up my skills.

Do you have any special methods that you use to prepare for auditions?

I live by the motto “you never get a second chance to make a good first impression” so proper preparation is essential. I believe it’s an honour to be invited to audition so I never take them for granted. I always make sure that I know my material 100% and do whatever it takes to achieve that.
