New Talent: Thomas E. S. Kelly
Even the most different modes of performance have things in common. One of our new signings about whom we’re very excited comes from a dance background, and with the help of Clifford Wallace aims to make strong inroads into acting.
Thomas E. S. Kelly is well established as a dancer and choreographer, having performed in many different countries. His first full dance work [MIS]Conceive premiered earlier this year, demonstrating this young talent’s extraordinary sense of self and belonging as an indigenous Australian who is extremely proud of being Bundjalung and Wiradjuri, as well as having ancestry from Vanuatu.
Thomas also lists composing, puppeteering and – of course – acting among his main skills. The command of storytelling and emotionally-guided performance displayed through Thomas’ dance work is sure to translate to a unique and invigorating acting style, which we can’t wait to see in action.
A diversity of skills is an enormous asset to a performer. In mastering one skill, you are not just learning to do one thing, but absorbing methods and processes that can be a huge help in other areas. Performers like Thomas – who has an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and ambitious approach – have many different skills to succeed whatever comes their way.
